FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
| |
Pre-sales questions
1) Can we have a demo version?
Yes, click on one of these:
RW Net 4
RW NetServer 3
FleetEngine 1
RouteFinder 5 for MapInfo
2) How are your products shipped and how fast can we get them?
All products are shipped by download only, so delivery is usually very fast.
3) Do you offer competitive upgrades?
Yes, we offer up to a 30% discount, but evaluate it on a case-by-case basis. Proof of ownership is required.
4) Do you offer a 30-day money-back guarantee?
No, but we offer trial licenses, so you can test the functionality before ordering.
5) Can we buy RouteWare?
We get this question a lot. We do not have a product called RouteWare, so unless you are
interested in buying the whole company (!), we suggest you ask for one of the products.
General questions about routing
101) Can we plan the sequence in which to visit customers?
Generally yes. Read more here
102) The drive-time polygons created by your software are different from others in the same situation. Why?
Drive-time is really only defined while you are driving ON the street network.
Everything off-road is subject to interpretation and can differ between implementations.
RouteWare offers multiple methods leading to different results.
103) Can we do public transport routing?
It is possible to include public transport in a network aimed at pedestrians for instance.
Just assign a higher speed for the buses/trains than for pedestrians and include average
waiting time at the connecting links between road and bus/train. If the (low) frequency of the
buses/trains means this approach is not feasible, you will have to switch to a true timetable-based
planner. Timetable-based routing is NOT possible with any of our products.
RW Net 4 / NetServer 3
201) What is the difference between RW Net 4 and RW NetServer 3?
Generally RW Net 4 is aimed at desktop applications and RW NetServer is aimed at the (web)server.
- The server version is different since it offers an API for almost any development platform
incl. Java, C#, C++, PHP etc. RW Net only works on Windows and to a limited degree on Linux.
- The server has built-in functions for working in a multi-user environment, such as a website.
It also has its own application server built-in and logging facilities, so it is quite easy to use.
- The server version misses some functionality for more advanced analysis, which is normally
not needed on a server, but more for desktop analysis.
- The server version is built on top of RW Net 2 (but it is still a single EXE file), so ultimately
anything possible with RW NetServer can also be done in RW Net, while it may not be true the other way around.
- Licensing is different: RW NetServer is licensed per core, while RW Net is licensed per developer.
202) Does RW Net 4 support .NET?
Yes, it is available as a managed .NET assembly, compatible with both CF and Mono.
203) Does RW Net 4 support XML or SOAP?
No, but all such interfaces can be added on top of RW Net 4 by the developer.
A SOAP server example is included.
204) Can RW Net 4 show maps on the screen?
No, you need a mapping component for that part. But it can create GIS files (such as SHP)
ready to be shown on the screen. The documentation contains a list of possible
mapping components.
205) Can RW Net 4 do geocoding?
Geocoding is the process of translating a text based address into a set of coordinates.
RW Net do not include such functionality, but takes coordinates as input for most of its functions.
RouteFinder 5
301) Where do I find the full version of RouteFinder?
What you download from the website is the full version. All you need is a valid licence file to enable additional features.
302) Can I use RouteFinder to develop my own applications?
No. RouteFinder is based on RW Net 4 and you will also see that the rwnet4.dll is
installed on your computer, but the licence does not allow you to use it directly
and technically it is not possible. You will have to get a separate licence for RW Net 4.
